The Wieliczka Salt Mine, a short journey from Kraków, is one of the world's oldest salt mines, near Kraków, and was named to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1978. Salt was mined here from the 13th century until 1996. Over those centuries the miners also carved an underground world of chapels, statues and chandeliers from the rock salt itself.
The visitor Tourist Route descends more than 130 metres underground and winds 3.5 kilometres through timbered chambers, underground brine lakes and salt-hewn galleries, ending in the breathtaking St Kinga's Chapel — a full-sized church, its altars, reliefs and chandeliers all carved from salt. The route is a guided tour, offered in several languages, and the English-language departures are the ones international visitors need.
It is one of Poland's most visited attractions, with capped, timed guided departures — which is exactly where a booking service earns its place. We help you secure an English tour on the date you want, explain how the ticket and family options work, and make sure a sold-out day doesn't cost you one of Europe's great underground experiences.
